Job Description
Salary and Terms:             Nine-month appointment.  Salary placement is commensurate with education and experience.

Position Description:         The Assistant Professor of Management position requires teaching a variety of human resources courses including, but not limited to: Human Resources Management, Diversity Management, Staffing Management, Compensation and Benefits, Labor Relations, Training and Development, and other Management courses as needed. Delivery methods include online, hybrid and classroom teaching. Additional responsibilities include involvement in department projects and activities, student advising, representing the department at campus-wide recruiting events, and participation in campus committees. This position will engage in scholarly and creative activity, continuing preparation and study, contributing to student growth and development, and service to the university. SMSU, in its commitment to meet the services needs of the region, expects faculty to engage in regional services, education or study as part of their community service responsibility.

  • Ph.D. or DBA in Human Resource Management or Management with a concentration in Human Resource Management or closely related field. Include title and description of doctoral dissertation as it relates to human resource management.
  • Consideration will be made for applicants who are expected to receive their Ph.D. or DBA within one semester of appointment.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence in the discipline and specializations associated with the position expected.
  • Professional work experience in human resource management is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability/competence in instructional technology and online teaching.

*Nine Month Appointments- Along with all other Universities that are part of the Minnesota State system, standard faculty appointments are for 168 duty days distributed over any nine consecutive months.  The nine months need not align with the traditional academic year and may be changed every two years.  Initial faculty appointments at SMSU are expected to be similar to or the same as the academic year unless otherwise indicated on the vacancy notice.
